Summer Reset

A Morning Ritual: 7 tips Ayurveda Style

It’s Summer and let’s be real, that usually means all routine goes out the window. The kids are out of school, the calendar gets chaotic, and suddenly you’re living off of sunscreen and iced adaptogens. I get it. I’ve lived it. But here’s the thing: even in the aimless, sun-drenched sprawl of summer, we can keep a rhythm. We can keep our rituals. And if we do that, we just might feel a little more human.

In Ayurveda, your daily routine is called dinacharya. It’s not just a schedule, it’s a sacred rhythm that helps you stay balanced and in flow with nature. It honors the idea that our bodies thrive on consistency, even if our summer plans don’t.

My Ayurvedic Morning Ritual (Summer Edition)

This isn’t about perfection. This is about presence. I adjust this routine depending on the season, my cycle, the moon, and how many children are asking for pancakes before 7am. But this is my core summer flow:

1. Wake with the sun

In summer, I try to wake up around 6am when the energy is still soft. Waking with the sun helps sync your body to the season. This is pitta time, when the fire element is rising, so we want to move gently into the day.

2. Tongue scraping + oil pulling

I scrape my tongue (which sounds weird if you’ve never done it, but trust me, you’ll get addicted) to remove ama (toxins) and kick start digestion. Then I do a quick oil pull with organic sesame oil or coconut oil, whatever I have on hand.

3. Hydrate first thing

One big glass of warm water with a squeeze of lemon or a splash of aloe. In summer, hydration is queen.

4. Morning movement

Nothing intense. I walk barefoot outside, do gentle yoga, or stretch on the porch with my tea. The key here is flow, not force.

5. Meditation + breath

Even 5 minutes makes a difference. I focus on cooling pranayama like sheetali breath to balance the summer heat and soothe the nervous system followed by a 10 minute visualization practice to keep me in my flow.

6. Kapow Cacao

This is the part I look forward to the most. Our Kapow blend is grounding, mood-boosting, and helps me feel sharp and calm at the same time. It’s like a hug for my brain.

7. Dry brushing + shower

In ayurveda, self-massage (abhyanga) is usually done with oil, but in the heat of summer, I love dry brushing to stimulate circulation and gently exfoliate. Then I rinse with cool water, no scalding showers this time of year.

Why it matters:

Summer is ruled by the pitta dosha and that means hot, sharp, and intense energies. Without balance, that can show up in us as burnout, irritability, and inflammation. A simple morning ritual creates cool, steady structure for your mind and body. It gives your nervous system a rhythm. It anchors you.

Dinacharya doesn’t mean you have to do everything perfectly. It means you show up. You listen. You align.

Even if you just do one thing from this list, you’re giving your body and mind the message: we are supported.

Let it be simple. Let it be sacred. And let your morning become a ritual you actually look forward to.

Here’s to your summer flow,
